Biography

Kevin has a wide base of experience and has been active within the field for over 15 years. He has worked for first opinion and referral exotic veterinary practices, zoological collections, wildlife hospitals and for commercial clinical pathology laboratories. He is one of the few veterinarians to have achieved diplomate & RCVS specialist status, whilst in private practice. Kevin is one of only two reptile diploma holders in the UK. Kevin is the only person in the UK to be recognised by the European College of Zoological Medicine as a specialist in herpetological medicine.

Kevin’s primary interests include reptile medicine and surgery. He keeps and breeds Tunisian tortoises at home. Kevin acts as the veterinary liaison officer to the British Chelonia Group, the oldest tortoise charity in the UK promoting chelonian welfare and conservation. He also advises the Tortoise Protection Group. He also regularly writes a column for Practical Reptile Keeping magazine.

Kevin also has a keen interest in avian medicine and surgery. His family have been keen aviculturists and Kevin has kept birds since he was 12 years old. He currently keeps a variety of South Asian Softbills and with his family maintain an exhibition stud of budgerigars. He advises the UK based Budgerigar Society. He regularly writes a column for Cage and Aviary Birds magazine.

He also has a long history of treating ferrets and was the first veterinarian to report adrenal gland disease and insulinomas in the UK. He is an advisor to the Ferret Education and Research Trust.

Kevin and his family have long been involved with the pet trade and this with his experiencies as a fancier has given him a unique insight into how veterinary care can be applied in a variety of situations.

Kevin also reguarly speaks at local and national club and society meetings.

He has joined the team at the “Dick Vet”, expanding the depth and breadth of knowledge and the level of care available for all first opinion and referral exotic patients at the clinic.
