Abstract

A series of models that consider the operating decisions of start-up firms will be discussed. Analysis of the models shows that although a start-up firm should generally be more cautious than a well-established firm when taking operational decisions, it should not be too cautious. The models might help explain the behaviour observed in practice in the case of a manufacturing start-up. Finally, the model is used to provide insight on negotiations in a "Dragon's Den" scenario.
