Description

This consultation on the 2023 GEM Report, convened by NORRAG will focus on the role, impact and influence of corporations and philanthropies in the development of education technology. It will look into issues related to procurement, governance and influence, outlining the processes by which governments roll-out technology in education systems and in classrooms.

The consultation will focus on the power and influence of technology corporations and technology philanthropists, and of the platforms and products they offer–and potential implications for education governance and systems of public education. As such, it will explore the linkages between the 2021/2 GEM Report on non-state actors and education and the 2023 GEM Report on technology and education.

The consultation will be virtual and will last 2 hours. It will include a presentation of the 2023 GEM Report concept note and the work of NORRAG on the digitization of education, followed by two panel discussions: one focusing on governance and procurement and a second focusing on influence. Participants will be invited to share their thoughts after each panel discussion.
