A Bridge to Where? Determining the goals of bridging programmes for displaced learners

Activity: Academic talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Description

The Foundations for All (FFA) team would like to host a 1.5 hour online panel discussion entitled, “A Bridge to where? Determining the goals of bridging programmes for displaced learners”. The FFA project is a partnership between staff members and students at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, the Refugee Law Project in Uganda and the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. The project team will share its experiences of designing various bridging programmes for refugee learners, with a particular focus on how they determined the different outcomes: FFA was designed to prepare students for tertiary education in Uganda, whilst PADILEIA, which was implemented by the American University of Beirut, focused on facilitating access to tertiary education pathways. During the panel, the team will discuss what influenced these programmes’ learning objectives, and students who undertook these programmes will be invited to reflect on to what extent these objectives met their needs. We will then invite the audience to join the discussion on how to determine and design programme goals and on how educational and political contexts should and influence this.
