'A panorama of gay life': The making of 'Nighthawks'

  • Glyn Davis (Invited speaker)

Activity: Academic talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Description

I was invited to give a talk at Goldsmiths for the Queer History MA seminar series. My talk - arising from research connected to the 'Cruising the 1970s' project - was an exploration of 'Nighthawks' (1978), made by Ron Peck and Paul Hallam. In addition to discussing the evolution and development of the film, I introduced queer methods of thinking about the film's significance, drawing in particular on writings by Sarah Schulman, Melissa Adler, and Christopher Castiglia and Christopher Reed.
