A Tale of Two Churches: G E Street in Rome

Activity: Academic talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Description

In this lecture G A Bremner will consider the challenges faced by G E Street in his designs for the Anglican churches of St Paul ‘s Within-the-Walls and All Saints’ in Rome. Street’s attentiveness to context and location in his approach to architectural design will be analysed alongside wider concerns on the part of his patrons for buildings that were symbolic of modernity, religious liberty, and a broad Protestant ethos in the heart of the Roman Catholic world.
