New Ventures: Intersections in Design Education. (Intersections in the Creative Campus) NEW VENTURES ARE PROPELLING DESIGN EDUCATORS AND STUDENTS TO RE-THINK HOW, WHERE, AND WHAT TYPES OF EXPERIENCES BEST SERVE A DESIGN EDUCATION IN THE 21ST CENTURY. From the creation of new types of graduate programs (DMBA), to the physical creation of design think tanks and venture accelerator programs on campuses — a new landscape of collaboration, intersection and adventure is quickly emerging. New ventures in higher education are redefining “the creative campus” while encouraging connectivity across disciplines with design leading the charge. Steven J. Tepper, Dean of the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, has written about “the creative campus.” His call is for a “commitment to use our campuses as laboratories to learn more about the nature of art and creativity”. This panel will examine how the overall creative life of a campus is enriched by its design programs and contributes to the educational and cultural life of the university.
