AOM PDW - 'Designing Sustainable Governance'

Activity: Participating in or organising an event typesParticipation in conference

This PDW builds on the theme of the 75th Academy, ‘Opening Governance’, by exploring how institutions, organizations and practices can be creatively designed in order to facilitate sustainable and innovative management of resources. Despite the growing interest within management studies towards issues of sustainability and governance, there is still much to be gained from greater attention given to the design of governance structures and processes at the level of institutions, organizations and practices in support of integrating deep sustainability – a sustainability orientation going beyond a resource efficiencies mindset, to act in accordance with the biophysical limits of Earth’s resources and carrying capacity for life (Foster, 2002; Rockstrom et al., 2009) – into organizational perspectives and actions. This insight is crucial if we as scholars and practitioners expect to develop organizations which can help mitigate rather than contribute to our growing ecological crises.
