Description

I have selected and edited the contents for volume 8 issue 4 of Art in Translation. I am the author of the editorial "Difference', which introduces the main issues arising from the translated articles published in this issue. They focus on cultural encounters in various contexts and will be relevant to students and scholars interested in primitivism, African and Afro-Brazilian sculpture, non-Western contemporary art and the global, Neo-Orientalism, post-colonial theory, and innovative architectural practice in the late 1960s. Articles include: Raimondo Nina Rodriges, "Fine Art among the Black Settlers in Brazil. Sculpture" (1904, translated from Portuguese); Artur Ramos, Negro Art in Brazil (1949, translated from Portuguese), Viktoria Schmidt Linsenhoff, Working on the Stereotype: Mona Hatoum and Gülsün Karamustafa (2013, translated from German), and Georges Adéagbo’s Postcolonial Chamber of Curiosities (2013, translated from German); Ottokar Uhl, "Democratized Aesthetics" (1970).
