Description

Black and Suga: The Transformative Potential of Everyday Objects

This talk, delivered at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, examined the way in which artists Karla Black and Kishio Suga use materials from everyday life in their work. Drawing in particular on anthropological approaches to materialit, it considered how Black and Suga’s work is simultaneously fixed and mobile, ultimately demonstrating that materials are useful to think through, rather than simply to think about.
