Description
parliamentary seminar on the Child House model, which provides health, therapy and criminal justice for victims of child sexual abuse under one roof.Wednesday 26 February, 10.15-12.00
Atlee Suite, Portcullis House
Our host Sarah Champion MP will be joined by Bragi Gudbrandsson, founder of the Barnahaus (Child House) model in Iceland and Vice Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, Jess Phillips MP, Minister for Safeguarding and Violence against Women and Girls, and Dame Rachel de Souza, Children’s Commissioner for England - alongside representatives of the Lighthouse in Camden, England’s only Child House.
The event will explore the benefits of Child Houses for victims of child sexual abuse and other crimes with lessons from abroad and the UK, and how the model could be expanded across the UK so that many more child victims can benefit. The Lighthouse in Camden is able to support just 220 children a year from five London boroughs, yet it is estimated that half a million children in the UK experience sexual abuse every year.
