Contesting the Spirit of Unity - Event at the 2017 Edinburgh International Festival

Description

This event – in the form of readings and a panel discussion – examines the origin of the ‘culture wars’, an underappreciated part of the development of Edinburgh as a Festival City. The event was supported by Edinburgh Trades Union Council and Scottish Trade Unions and put on as part of the International Festival and British Council season Spirit of '47. I provided content and advice to the main organiser, Dr Terry Brotherstone, both in terms of detail drawn from my book The Edinburgh Festivals and in the form of email and face-to-face discussions.
