counting grunts - sound as the interface to an adaptive music system

Parker, M. (Speaker)

Activity: Academic talk or presentation typesInvited talk

This seminar introduces 'GruntCount', a configurable composition for instrument and computer. 'GruntCount' was developed to create opportunities to work with exciting musicians who weren't necessarily computer-music specialists. It is a work that can be rehearsed in advance of a concert and yet feel very different at each performance. In describing the project, the talk engages with questions relating to collaborative composition, attempt to illustrate the sound of spontaneity, and explore the increasing relevance of systems over scores in new music activity.
