Description
Commoning the Insitution / Instituting the Commons workshop focuses on the open relationship between institutions, understood as formal, long-term forms of organisation, and commons, understood very loosely and broadly as open collaboration around shared resources and shared responsibility, be it in relation to a physical space, knowledge, or a particular practice. For this workshop, I was asked to prepare a short statement on the commons and self-organised art communities. Additionally, I was asked to lead a break-out session for with a small group of the participants (appr.5) for a more intense discussion. The discussion emerged around the following topics:
Resources / preconditions of creating the commons
Internal processes and dynamics
Interaction with the wider environment, as both enabling and limiting
The particular role that art can play in these processes.
