Description

This 1-day workshop was a co-production of the Advanced Research Centre (University of Glasgow) and the Binks Hub (University of Edinburgh). We drew upon our collective expertise in interdisciplinary, participatory and artistic and creative research methods to guide participant PhD students from across Scotland through hands-on creative and artistic approaches that they might use to research, analyse, communicate and make sense of their research projects in post-disciplinary contexts.
Over the course of the workshop we used creative methods to deepen our understandings of inter- and post-disciplinary approaches to academic research. We drew on:
- Zine-making - Dr Lisa Bradley and Dr Mindy Ptolemy led a zine-making session in which participants considered themselves as post-disciplinary researchers and their PhD projects as post-disciplinary artifacts.
- Curation - Dr Jimmy Turner guided participants through a co-curation of the zines produced into a series of mini-exhibitions through which the links and relations between participants' projects were surfaced.
- Creative writing - Interspersed through the day were creative writing interventions facilitated by writer and artist Rhiannon Bull to help participants define their intentions, reflect on their creative work, and reflect upon and evaluate their experiences.
