Edinburgh Neuroscience Workshop "Get Remembering"

This workshop is designed for S5 &S6 schoolchildren to promote debate and thought about brain function contrasted with robotics. A lecture (including short illustrative video clips) introduces neuronal circuitry in the brain, the effects of disease in the CNS, memory formation and retrieval. This is contrasted by a short lecture on cybernetics and the evolution of neural networks necessary for simple tasks to be carried out by robots. Practical demonstrations include a game which demonstrates how memory is linked in the brain, a dog-like performing robot, a memory test and a knot game demonstrating the difficulties involved in creating a task for a robot to follow.
