In the NHS Lothian area in Scotland, the late diagnosis of deaf children due to failings in early audiological testing has caused a crisis for affected families. This project investigated the experiences of families with a late-diagnosed deaf child in navigating the process of accessing language support in both BSL and spoken English. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six parents and caregivers across three different local authorities affected by late diagnosis to gain in-depth insights into their experiences. Tania presented the results of her MSc research, including the difficulties families experienced in accessing timely and suitable language resources for their deaf children.
