Description

Explorathon/Curiosity Forest
I designed and presented a stall at the science festival Curiosity Forest, explaining human skin architecture to family audience, as well as co-expression analysis to adults. For the family audience, the participants learn a little about skin structures, through “skin craft” (hair, sebaceous gland, sweat gland, epidermis, fat). The participants are also asked to “make their own skin” by cutting/sticking together paper-craft. There was also a digital microscope for the participants to examine their own skin. For the adult audience, I demonstrated the basis of co-expression analysis by asking them to pick a handful of coloured beads and plotting their numbers onto a graph. The example illustrate the ability of identifying whether two things increase/decrease at the same time when a large number of measurements are made.
