Description
This talk offers a brief overview of key fires that occurred in Edinburgh from 1426 to 1911. It considers the way these fires were shaped by the particular character of Edinburgh’s built fabric, and outlines those local legal frameworks that were developed to stop their re-occurrence. It considers how those legal frameworks helped shape the city we know today, but also how they informed the development of national and international fire-safety standards. It demonstrates how particular events and buildings in Edinburgh’s history have gone on to shape the built fabric and legal frameworks of cities the world over.Period | 27 Jun 2024 |
