Description

On Sunday, 21st September 2025, Queering Abortion took place as part of Fringe! Queer Film & Arts Fest and Love Hub – East London celebration (13–21 September 2025).

Bodily autonomy is one of the pillars of queer liberation, and this includes reproductive freedom. Queering Abortion with the Love Hub brought together activists, researchers and community organisers for a two-part interactive event exploring what abortion means in theory and practice for queer people, queer relationships and queer bodies.

Phil Samba (The Love Tank), Jackson King (writer and activist), and Nicola Boydell (University of Edinburgh) reflected on the histories and current realities of abortion care and other areas of sexual and reproductive health, drawing from their work in activism, research and community building. The discussion explored key questions such as: How can peer- and community-led approaches support people seeking abortion?; How do race, gender and sexuality shaped experiences of abortion for queer people?; What can abortion care learn from HIV, PrEP and disability activism?
This conversation opened space for shared learning, open dialogue and practical steps towards action.

Participants then joined an interactive workshop to imagine what it means to “queer abortion.” Together, they explored radical queer abortion futures and discussed shifts in practice, care and community that might help move us closer to those futures. The session encouraged creativity, collaboration and curiosity, offering an accessible space for anyone interested in the intersections of queer liberation and reproductive justice.

This event highlighted the importance of collective imagination and solidarity in shaping inclusive, community-led approaches to abortion care.
