Gearing Up Conference

Activity: Participating in or organising an event typesParticipation in conference

In celebration of our 5th annual Gearing Up conference, we invite you to reflect on the student transitions work that you have been engaged with over the past few years. This year’s conference tagline is “My Story”. We will use this as a lens to help us reflect on the work we have undertaken during the QAA Enhancement Theme of Student Transitions. The event programme will highlight the individual stories of staff and students in relation to the following conference themes: Transitions into University. This includes the pre-arrival stage, on arrival, Welcome Week, new student induction and the first year of academic study. Additionally this transition can include transitions into Postgraduate study. Transitions during the period of study. Students experience on-going transitions while progressing through their studies, including between years. One example would be transitioning to honours level study. Transitions into and on return from placements and periods of study abroad are further examples of this aspect of transition. Transitions out of University. This can include transitions to further study as well as to employment or other activities. Resilience. This can include activities or initiatives which help support students to actively manage their transitions through developing resilience Student led. Transitions as experienced by University of Edinburgh students, either wholly student led or which involve students as co-contributors.
