Description

Gender diversity in the boards of directors of large corporations is a key topic in corporate governance across Europe. Despite some progress over the past few years, the progress remains slow. To address this issue, the European Commission has put forward a proposal for a Directive establishing a minimum threshold of 40 percent of the under-represented sex in non-executive board-member positions in listed companies and a “flexi quota” for executive directors, to be met by 2020. This public lecture examines how the greater gender diversity in decision making leads to an increase in the perceived fairness of company decisions and enhanced relationships with stakeholders.
