Description
For the first time in Scotland, we hosted a one-day conference titled 'Generating New Knowledge through Quantitative Approaches to Social Science' which brought together students using quantitative methods in their doctoral studies from across a broad range of HEIs (in Scotland and beyond) and from many different social science disciplines. The keynote address, given by Professor Ian Diamond, highlighted the challenges and opportunities of generating new knowledge through quantitative research and stressed the benefits of quantitative methods for early career researchers, for social science and for the wider society. Plenary sessions focused on ‘life after the PhD’ and highlighted potential career pathways for students with these skills. A broad range of presentations were delivered by students themselves and 81% of participants rated the event as highly positive while 87% found it useful for their own research.Period | 16 May 2011 |
