GF Smith, the leading speciality paper merchants in the UK and Europe, will be hosting a special two-day industry event at the College, as part of a UK tour of selected art schools in celebration of the company’s 110th birthday. The ‘GF Smith Roadshow’ will demonstrate the importance of paper and how GF Smith’s promotional activity in coloured and textured substrates has developed over the years. The ECA event will take place in the Evolution House Boardroom on Monday 26 & Tuesday 27 October 2009, and will showcase items from GF Smith’s impressive archive, including a range of sample swatches and promotional material from the early 1900s right through to the explosion of colour in the ‘pop’ print of the 1960s and early 1970s and examples from the huge range of speciality papers now available in the contemporary range.On the afternoon of Monday 26 October, GF Smith will present the archive to Year 2, 3 and 4 Graphic Design students, and then host an evening reception for GF Smith’s Edinburgh design clients and 4th year/Masters Graphic Design students. The archive display will be open to all students and members of the public on the morning of Tuesday 27 October.
