Description
The High Constables were created in 1611 by James l of England (VI of Scotland) to help keep the King’s Peace in the City. They carried out these duties until 1805 when peacekeeping and law enforcement tasks were taken over by the newly appointed City of Edinburgh Police Force. Over the years, the High Constable duties evolved becoming ceremonial, charitable, and social. I was sworn in as Badge #33 of Ward 3 on the second of February 2024. The High Constables are widely recognised as the oldest statutory police service in the world.
