ReSH and Unseen Hands Autumn EventThe IReSH network and Unseen Hands Autumn 2024 Event, held in collaboration with the Centre for Research Collections at the University of Edinburgh, aimed to create a collaborative space for community organisations, researchers, and practitioners in the fields of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and blood-borne viruses (BBV) to share cross-sector work being undertaken across Scotland.
Morning Session: IReSH Mini-Symposium The mini-symposium featured brief presentations on diverse SRH and BBV-related projects, including research findings, ongoing work, community engagement, and policy development. Key topics included barriers to Human Papillomavirus Vaccine uptake, access to abortion and post-abortion contraception, PMDD, suicide, and self-harm prevention, sexual wellbeing resources for young people, understandings of intrauterine contraceptive pain, BBV screening and support in custody and prison settings, minority ethnic community engagement with BBV services, and sexual health futures in Scotland. Each presentation was followed by a Q&A session.
Afternoon Session: Unseen Hands Project Showcase The afternoon session, in collaboration with the Unseen Hands and Leaving an Impression project, was led by Dr. Martha Baldon from the University of St Andrews. It included an interactive exploration of the Lothian Health Service Archive, supported by Louise Williams, where participants engaged with the archive through tactile experiences.
The event was organised by IReSH co-chairs Nicola Boydell (UoE), Ruth Lewis (UoG), and Faye Watson (UoE), with Nel Coleman (Open Research Centre, UoE).
