'The Dialogue between Legal Doctrine and Legal Practice: A Case Study from the European ius commune': This paper examines the use of references to courts and legal practice in the traditional narrative of European legal history. It is argued, using the works of Nicolas Boyier, a French jurist of the early sixteenth-century as an example, that more emphasis needs to be placed on the importance of courts and their decisions in the development of the European ius commune.
