Description
Juxtapositions: Cool!tude and Broon ScotsOrganised with Francesca Kaufman, this exhibition featured the art work of award-winning screen printer Danny Flynn and the renowned Edinburgh photographer Hermann Rodrigues. It displayed images of labour migrants of the 19th century alongside images of contemporary Scots of South Asian origin, attempting to capture the diversity, contrasts and contradictions in the experiences of 19th century migrants and 'Broonscots' living in Scotland today. It was informed by the contemporary idea of 'Coolitude' and the work of the poet Khal Torabully which reflects upon the historical identity of migrants and seeks to celebrate their courage, enterprise and achievement.
