A description and evaluation of the folkloric material gathered in the peninsula of Kintyre during the late nineteenth century, particularly by the collectors Alexander Carmichael in 1887 and Elizabeth Kerr during the late 1890s. Carmichael's material is preserved in his field notebook CW89, while Kerr's papers are to be found among the vast collection of Dr Robert Craig Maclagan, now in the School of Scottish Studies.
