Launch of the Research Network on Children's Human Rights

Activity: Participating in or organising an event typesPublic Engagement – Public lecture/debate/seminar

Description

The Research Network on Children's Human Rights is hosted by the Observatory on Children's Human Rights Scotland.
While the work to set up the Research Network started in spring 2023, it was officially launched in a hybrid event on 22nd June 2023, organised by the Observatory. Nearly 100 people attended the launch, representing a wide range of sectors working on children’s rights in Scotland. A broad range of topics were discussed, in particular:
• The meaningful participation of all children, including in research and the Research Network
• The need for more and better-quality data monitoring
• The importance of children’s rights-based budgeting at all stages of policy-making and as a tool for accountability
• The experiences of the most marginalised children, whether due to their age, the place they live in, their race or ethnicity, their disability, etc.
• And many discussions around specific rights and themes (such as education, health, child justice...)

We left the launch of the Research Network full of ideas on topics to prioritise and projects to implement to strengthen children’s rights research in Scotland.
