Description

Maine International Film Festival 2017: Charlie Chaplin Lived Here plus Mnemosyne, A Priest from a Different Land, and A Boat Retold

Invited retrospective program, MIFF 20th anniversary edition Waterville, ME Three-time festival faves from across the Atlantic, Sean Martin and Louise Milne grace us this year with no less than one world premiere and three American premieres of their films, as well as themselves! Charlie Chaplin Lived Here is a semi-sequel to Lanterna Magicka: Bill Douglas & the Secret History of Cinema, a documentary about Scottish filmmaker Bill Douglas’s lifelong Charlie Chaplin obsession. Includes a completion of Bill’s 1969 unfinished 8mm documentary, “Charlie Chaplin Lived Here,” which features never-before-seen footage of Chaplin’s London (a number of locations have long since been demolished). Features a voiceover from Chaplin’s My Autobiography. The diverse other new films include an experimental short film about memory, another about endurance and being in the world with text by Robert Walser, and a documentary about traditional boat building and storytelling in the Western Isles of Scotland, featuring writers Robert Macfarlane and Ian Stephen.
