Description

St Margaret’s Academy, Livingston - Visit to The Roslin Institute

I organised and managed a visit for the MMAS teams after the event to the Roslin Institute. This was a very successful event as it was very interactive. The children presented their winning demonstrations of science in everyday life to Roslin staff. Professor Bruce Whitelaw kindly agreed to give a talk to the children about cloning and led a discussion on the ethics and food sustainability. Mr Tim King kindly showed the children around the Roslin Institute farm explaining the cloning technique and showing them the transgenic animals. The children (S2 classes) were very interested and had many well informed questions to put to our staff. As there was an international conference taking place at the time the group experienced the use of lectures and a lively discussion about the worldwide impact of science, the peer review process and travel ensued. Guests and co-collaborators in the MMAS project also attended, Dr Jane Haley,Edinburgh Neuroscience and Proffessor Sergio Della Salla, Head of Psychology, University of Edinburgh.
