MASTERCLASS - 18th Century Leather Binding

Description

An intensive two day course which will teach full leather binding in the 18th Century style of bookbinding. You will make a leather bound book through a series of progressive steps designed to provide a good working knowledge of traditional bookbinding materials and techniques. Course focus on sewing a multi-sectioned book with raised cords, beating, end papers construction, edge trimming, lacing on boards. You will also learn leather working with a paring knife and spokeshave, and other preparation of leather to cover your book - this includes tool preparation and paring techniques and how to trim the leather accurately. I was aught Edge decoration techniques, headbanding, board attachment and some blind tooling techniques.

• sew a multi-sectioned binding with raised-cords 
• lace on boards 
• sew multi-coloured endbands 
• pare leather accurately 
• make a complete full leather 18th Century Binding from start to finish.
