Description

Interactive installation; "End of Forgetting" part of the "Material Rites" exhibition.

"Material Rites" presented new work in diverse media from a group of emerging and established Scottish based artists. Each of the artists demonstrated unique material aptitudes that impacted upon the development of their work. They all engaged with the material world around us in a different fashion and by bringing them together, this exhibition emphasized the influence materials can have on an artist and the work they create. Through a considered and coherent approach to investigating how material values are a force in each artist’s practice, Material Rites unearthed the knowledge which can help give the viewer a fresh system of interpretation.
"End of Forgetting": The installation remembers every sound it hears. These can be accessed by turning the wheel. Over time, its memories become confused. Every few minutes, the installation plays a brief snippet of the latest audio uploaded by anyone onto the internet at that moment. These are added to its memories. You can also eavesdrop on its memories as it reposts them online through it’s twitter feed.
