Description

Media participation: Short film for BBC TV Arts, 'Cherry blossoms and depression in Japan'.

A short film with BBC TV Arts, on how Japan’s modern relationship with the West has re-shaped the way Japanese people think about themselves. This has included, for some, a journey from aesthetic appreciation of the beauty and transience of the blossoms – ‘mono no aware‘: the pathos of everything in life passing away – to a suspicion that these feelings might be symptoms of depression…The film was produced by Craig Reece. Part of the BBC New Generation Thinkers film series.
