Dear Colleagues, Membrane separation processes have revolutionized several industries, including water purification, gas separation and pharmaceutical manufacturing, by providing an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly means of separating substances. The efficiency and selectivity of these processes are highly dependent on the membrane surface characteristics. Over the years, extensive research has been conducted to advance membrane surface modification and functionalization to improve the separation processes by tailoring membrane properties to specific application requirements. Despite significant progress, there is a growing need for further research and innovation in this field. The aim of this Special Issue is to serve as a platform to present the latest findings and insights to promote the development of advanced membrane technologies, with a focus on theoretical and experimental advances in membrane surface chemistry, in particular, synthesis, characterization and separation performance. This Special Issue will highlight the importance of membrane surface modification and functionalization in improving separation processes and present cutting-edge research and developments in this field.
