Musical identities: Conceptualising the universality of musical behavior This international conference provides a unique forum for researchers, practitioners, and musicians wishing to explore the growing body of research on music and identity construction, through the analysis of spoken interaction. Over 30 empirical and theoretical papers will be presented that discuss the collection and analysis of talk in a variety of musical contexts (e.g., interview, focus group, and naturally occurring data, and thematic analysis, interpretative phenomenological analysis, grounded theory, conversation analysis, discourse analysis, etc.). More specifically, discourse and identity are explored in a variety of topics that include: teacher/student interaction, collaboration, professional musicians, music across the lifespan, music listening, and musical culture. The conference welcomes existing researchers in the field, as well as those who would like to learn more about this important area of work.
