Description
The North Lands 20 conference was held at ECA in partnership with North Lands Glass on the 16th – 18th September 2016. The main aim of the conference was to connect ideas, formed after the industrial revolution, to our present technological time. The conference considered our continued relationship with nature, materials, making and the body in a progressive way. It was centred on people whose practice or research engages with the following topics: both traditional and non-traditional glassmaking techniques, merging technology and nature, changes in society after the industrial revolution, the shape of design and making in our future lives, the body in relation to materials and manual skills.Speakers raised questions such as: Is making empowering? Are studio glassmakers still inventing new technologies? 200 years after the industrial revolution is the handmade vs the machine made still relevant? Is it important to keep old techniques alive? And can technology bring you closer to nature?Period | 16 Sept 2016 → 18 Sept 2016 |
