Description
Philanthropy, Social Investment, and JusticeThis project addressed the ethical and political dimensions of social philanthropy. We aimed to promote dialogue and understanding between leading scholars, policy stakeholders and the public. The central event was a one-day workshop, with a key-note address by Prof. Rob Reich (Stanford University). Prof. Reich is the world's leading moral and political philosopher working on philanthropy and justice, and is about to publish the first monograph on the topic with OUP. In addition to this prestigious key-note speaker, we also hosted other leading academics and policy professionals such as Dr. Emma Dowling (Middlesex), Dr. Jana Hoenke (Edinburgh), Dr. Toby Jung (St. Andrews), Celia Tennant (Inspiring Scotland), Ewan Aitken (Cyrenians) and Paul Spray (formerly DFID). We published a range of blog articles on the JWI blog subsequently, and the profile and network led to further impact/KE activities such as being included as academic consultants on a bid to run the Scottish Government's Fairness and Equality public consultations, and further work with Ewan Aitken on an ESRC Impact Accelerator Grant led by the AoG in which the JWI is closely involved.
