Pictures of the Floating World? Japanese print then, now and in between

Activity: Participating in or organising an event typesPublic Engagement – Public lecture/debate/seminar

Description

Drawing on her recent participation in the Second International Mokuhanga (Japanese woodblock) Conference at Tokyo Geidai University, Pelzer-Montada explores the implications of the Japanese print tradition for contemporary artists in or from Japan. She will consider how artists in the 20th century have related to, rejected, ignored and adapted historical print practices, especially the Japanese woodblock, and will then examine the approaches to print taken by Japanese artists in the 21st century.
