Puppy Trade Working Group Meetings (Event)

Description

Puppy Trade Working Group Member. This group aims to promote legal and policy change within the UK regarding the illegal trade in intensively bred puppies. It also aims to enhance public understanding of the welfare and behavioural impact of the illegal puppy trade on pet dogs. My research on canine behaviour has formed an important part of the evidence-base for this group. Membership: Gilly Mendes Ferreira (Scottish SPCA), Kirsteen Campbell (Scottish SPCA); Mark Rafferty (Scottish SPCA); Michelle Supple (Scottish SPCA); Jo Williams (University of Edinburgh); Phoebe Harris (Battersea); Becky Thwaites (Blue Cross); Charlotte Longster (Dogs Trust); Howard Bridges (Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home); Graeme Mutter (HMRC); Ed Hayes (Kennel Club); David Bowles (RSPCA) and Andrew Voas (Scottish Government) Mike Flynn (Scottish SPCA); Pauline Younger (HMRC); John Allsopp (Defra); Paula Boyden (Dogs Trust); Emma Harper (MSP); Sandra Harkness (Dumfries & Galloway Council) and Ian Ramsay (BSAVA). •Measurable Impacts: Mentioned in policy statements in Scottish and UK governments; creation of a UK-wide website presenting evidence-based information to the public about the puppy trade to be launched Monday 16th April; creation of a Scottish Accredited Breeder Scheme organized by the Scottish SPCA; Scottish government-led public awareness raising week on the puppy trade from 16th April 2018.
