Description

From 2022-24 our team of Jennifer Williams, Gintare Kulyte, Ekaterina Shurkova and Jimmy Turner worked on the Recycling a Hospital project; using wood, slates and sandstone from the original building, we created an object called ‘The Spirit Case’. Local artisans and community members collaborated to build this object, and to write poetry which has been carved into slate and stone. The Spirit Case will help us remember and connect with the long and important history of the building as hospital, and the many memories and stories created there, as we journey forward into our new endeavor of addressing global challenges. It will inspire us to work creatively and collaboratively toward innovative pathways and solutions, whilst continuing the practice of healing and caring in new ways.
To mark the transition from hospital to research institute we designed this event as ceremony and artistic exhibition.
