Description
In troubled times, laughter is often the only way in which to respond to the world. In this series of films, the Film Studies department at the University of Edinburgh introduce a season of wry, amusing and sometimes absurd films that reflect and comment on the real situation of Europe in ways that sometimes apparently serious films cannot.
Organised by David Sorfa with Eszter Simor and Pasquale Iannone
The programme includes:
The Cremator (Juraj Herz, Czechoslovakia, 1969) Surviving Life (Jan Svankmajer, Czech Republic, 2010) Kills on Wheels (Attila Till, Hungary, 2016) Leningrad Cowboys Go America (Aki Kaurismaki, Finland, 1989) Pulp (Michael Hodges, UK, 1972) Britannia Hospital (Lindsay Anderson, UK, 1982)
