Studying Victorian Architecture: Past Reflections, Future Developments

Activity: Academic talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Description

In this opening lecture Alex Bremner will reflect upon past achievements in scholarship on Victorian architecture with a view to asking where it has arrived at now, and in what directions it might develop in the future. As the Victorian Society passes through its 60th year, the status and ‘health’ of the subject will face unprecedented challenges in terms of institutional recognition and funding. But there are ways of meeting these challenges that will not only strengthen and diversify the subject, but also set it on a secure footing for the future.
