The borders of sanityThis is a four episode series in BBC Radio 4 in which Chris Harding explores the medicalisation of mental illness. It looks at how culture shapes people's experiences of mental illness and mental health. The programs focus on depression in Japan, adolescent mental health in Sweden, voice-hearing in the UK, and healing in Ghana. It is rooted in Chris Harding's research on culture and mental health/illness, and he scripts and presents the episodes. A fifth episode has been commissioned by the World Service as a roundtable discussion based on the issues raised in the series.
