On 30 October 2024, I delivered a keynote lecture at the symposium Monster Revisited: Fantastic Creatures of Japan, held at the Romanian-American University in Bucharest. The lecture, titled Things that Talk: Symbolic Layers in Yokai Fashion, Props, and Language, explored the multi-layered meanings embedded within the iconography of yokai. It examined how fashion, objects, and linguistic elements associated with these supernatural beings convey symbolic narratives, reflecting cultural, historical, and aesthetic dimensions.
