Description
Abstract: In the 1960s, the National Trust diagnosed the British coast as being on the brink of vanishing. The identified culprit was the British growing love for the sea and the proposed strategy was to buy up every inch that remained unspoilt. The talk will trace affective underpinnings of socio-material tensions on the British coast to suggest what could be learned from thinking through and with Britain’s coastline as a liminal zone of enduring attachments and a very fragile experiment.
