Description

As a world-leading research institution, we continually explore the world around us using different methods of inquiry. We can apply this same curiosity to our own learning and teaching by using educational research to inform and innovate our teaching practices. This investigation and inquiry into our practices is known as ‘Scholarship of Teaching and Learning SoTL (SoTL)’. While the definition of SoTL has a somewhat contested history, for the purpose of this Conference, we understand SoTL as thinking, talking, reading, and writing about our learning and teaching in a thoughtful way.

People engage in SoTL for many reasons, including: individual motivations, like improving the student experience in our classrooms; communal reasons, such as raising the standards of excellence in an entire discipline; or to benefit from the insights of collaboration through partnerships. The aim of this conference is to share our research-minded approaches to teaching, from questioning existing teaching practice, to finding out whether a new practice has worked or not, to using more formal research methods to understand our learners’ experiences.
