Description
Scotland's First Woman Law Graduates 1909: An Edinburgh CentenaryProfessor MacQueen began with an account of the social origins of the two women, both of whom were born into prominent legal families in Edinburgh. By the time of their LLB graduations in 1909 Eveline MacLaren and Josephine Gordon Stuart were seasoned scholars, both women having already obtained the MA from the University of Edinburgh in 1904 and 1907 respectively. While neither Eveline nor Josephine chose to enter the legal profession in later years, they maintained close links with the Edinburgh-based solicitor firms of Balfour + Manson and Stuart & Stuart.
