Description

The Guardian University Awards 2013 saw nine UK universities recognised for demonstrating innovation, creativity and excellence in the sector at an awards ceremony hosted by BBC education correspondent Reeta Chakrabarti at Senate House in London. The winners of the 2013 Guardian University Awards have been announced this evening, during a ceremony hosted by BBC education correspondent Reeta Chakrabarti in London. The awards, running for the first time this year, celebrate the best of Britain’s universities and act as a benchmark for excellence across the higher education sector. Alan Rusbridger, editor-in-chief, Guardian News & Media, said: “The Guardian University Awards honour the outstanding contributions of the UK’s best universities and individuals who are driving innovation and delivering outstanding results in the face of radical reform and budget cuts. “Our 10 award categories were keenly fought and in this first year we have seen outstanding competition. All of our winners have shown that they are among the best in the education business.” Wendy Berliner, head of education for Guardian Professional and chair of the judging panel, said: “We have an incredibly successful higher education sector in the UK and the Guardian University Awards celebrate all that makes our institutions distinctly great. “The winning universities all submitted outstanding research, projects and initiatives. They really impressed the judges by going above and beyond their expectations and showed that their projects engaged both students and staff. In this first year of the awards, the competition has been very strong and all of our winners should be immensely proud of what they have achieved.”
